Big Fish Audio Vintage Horns 3 Funk/Soul Productions Virtual Instrument

Funk/Soul Productions and Big Fish Audio are proud to announce Vintage Horns 3, a compelling new collection of virtual instruments meticulously designed to capture the authentic sound of horn soloists and sections spanning the 1930s through the 1970s. Get ready to explore iconic styles like the Detroit Soul Solo Bari Sax, 1970s R&B Solo Alto Sax, Grungy Rock ’N’ Roll Solo Tenor Sax, and an expressive Jazz-Fusion Flute complete with wild flutter-tongue and “singing” articulations.

Following in the footsteps of its best-selling predecessors, Vintage Horns 3 isn’t about flawless, ultra-clean perfection. Instead, the goal was to craft a collection embodying the raw, organic character of horn players from those golden eras – embracing the quirks and imperfections that made their performances so legendary.

This library finds its inspiration in the distinctive styles of musical giants such as Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Fred Wesley, Eddie Harris, Wayne Shorter, David Sanborn, and Lenny Pickett. It also channels the powerhouse horn sections of Motown, Tower of Power, the J.B.’s, and the Rebirth Brass Band.

To achieve this unique sound, the team meticulously studied the techniques of these musicians, focusing on tone, vibrato (or lack thereof), articulation, and instrument choices. They embraced loose tuning and preserved expressive details often removed in other virtual instruments – think honking, squawking, warbling, cracked, and slurred notes – the very nuances real horn players utilized throughout the ‘40s, ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s.

The result? A sampled horn collection brimming with true character, unlike anything else on the market.
